If you have been hiding under a rock for a while, buddypress and wpmu are fanastic ways to start a community based site! I am a member and huge fan of the guys work over at wpmudev.org. Right now they are giving away a years subscription, so you can enjoy their themes and plugins. This site is undergoing some changes as I write, and will soon take advantage of this great wpmu template So go check out the wpmudev competition page now.
